Response to O J:

I completely agree with Olivia's story on WHAS not having enough stories in the national category but I believe that it is not just WHAS that has this problem but yet all TV local news stations. Although all the stations have a higher percentage than WHAS in the national category, all stations lacked in this area. I understand that these are local TV news stations but like I have been saying in all of my posts having do to with the news stations they are not releasing enough newsworthy stories and they are sharing too many stories on the same topics rather than showing a larger variety. I believe that each station should cover at least two to three national stories to keep people more entertained.

Response to Cameron's Journalism Blogs:

I agree on your response to the TV lecture. Our society has changed so much that I believe that our whole community especially in the United States has become more lazy. During summer break when we have no school and probably have some sort of sport activity maybe two to three times a week other that we usually stay at home and watch TV or go hang out with our friends. We don't go outside and ride a bike or play a game of kickball anymore because we would rather stay in an air conditioned house watching TV. I also agree with you that I wish we were able to learn about the effects that TV has had on our health.

In response to moderatleymaggie:

I strongly agree with the story that you posted on your blog having to do with the hiker who was ill and could no longer hike. Although this story may be interesting for several people it is not newsworthy and it will not effect us in the long run. Local TV news stations only have half an hour to an hour to give us information on what is going on in our city. Including weather and sports which each take five to ten minutes of the show. So the stations need to cram in as much newsworthy news as they can. Wasting time to tell us that a hiker could no longer hike because she was sick is wasting time on telling us news that people really need to hear.

Politics

There have been a lot of political events going on in our nation lately such as all the democratic and republican debates for the presidential election as well as Election Day coming up on November 2nd for many different positions such as Secratary of State. So a person would think that they would see many stories on our local tv stations on politics. However, only 7.41% of all the stories on all five local news sources have been on politics. Politics is one topic that many people are interested in and like to see people's opinions on the candidates. If stations were to talk about political issues this could possibly accelerate viewers because it is newsworthy material. Our local news stations have a habit of including to much in one area and not knowing how to balance there stories out among different topics. This could eventually lead into a major decline of viewers.

WLKY on Crime

In journalism class the class has been assigned to watch the news and collect data to see what news topics they were covering and what topics they weren't. After collecting data the class has come to a conclusion. WLKY talks about crime way to much and is not including a variety of different categories. Over 40% of WLKY'S news is just stories on crime so on average eight stories a day is just on crime. A half an hour show only covers about ten to fifteen stories a day on actually news. That means that if eight stories are on crime only four or five is on other topics. This is not showing enough variety of stories which could result in a loss viewers.

TV News Technology

Growing up I have always been very interested in journalism and ever since I was little I have always wanted to be a broadcasting journalist. So knowing how news tv stations work is very important especially if I continue to be a broadcasting journalist. Everyday after dinner my parents watch the news and I have noticed that most of what they do is packages where they include a couple news stories and show us what the weather is like for the week and then show us a teaser, where they tell us what is coming up after break and then go to commercial. Also every news station includes breaks obviously to make money off of advertisements. Lastly something I have noticed that many news stations include remote where a reporter is at scene live talking to a camera. Now knowing the parts of tv news I can understand better what the different parts of news are called.

Radio

When the radio first came out it was a very smart invention because they developed it in way that was able to work for everybody. First of all, the radio was cheap and was a good way for people to get information about what was going on in the world. It was also very special because the radio then, is basically like TV now. It had so many channels that all had to do with different categories that there was something for everybody which is what attracted so many people. This was why the radio became so popular. It was also a way for people who had a talent such as somebody who could sing could get themselves out there and become famous. One thing that was special about the radio was that it was cheap enough for anybody not just the wealthy. With TV and books for example, when they first came out they were so expensive that only the very wealthy were able to afford them. With Radio, they were always cheap that you could litterally go to any store, buy one, and just build one yourself. Because of all these benifits the radio was able to get popular very fast.
