 Three types of Communication

During this lecture we learned about the different ways that we can communicate with each other. I found this topic very interesting because I really never thought about the way we communicate with each other until we covered this topic in class. The three types of communication are individual, group, and mass communication. In my opinion the easiest one to be able to understand was individual because it is just a conversation between you and one other person. However, the hardest for me to be able to understand was the difference between group communication and mass communication and how they relate with each other. Now, in my opinion I believe that they are very similar the only difference between the two of the them is the difference of weather you are physically in that conversation or your communicating with an audience through time and space. When first learning about this in class I really wasn't being able to grasp the different concepts between the two. I thought that when using group communication that it was a small group of friends that you were talking to and I thought that mass communication would be like doing a concert to a massive audience, and at that point I wasn't even considering what type of communication things like Skype and FaceTime were. I then later realized that when using group communication you have to physically be there, but when doing things like Skype or FaceTime it is mass communication even if you were just talking to one person because you are communicating with that person through time and space. I think that that is what I found most interesting about this lesson and all at the same time the most confusing.
