Movies

During this lecture I really learned about the impacts that movies have had on our society. It was really the first innovation that could combine sound and motion picture. It was also really special that movies could seem so realistic to us. It really made our brains think weather this could really happen in real life or not. I also was really fascinated by the way that movies have evolved in our society. During the 1900s it was amazing just to see a movie. Not only that, the only time they ever played a movie was in front of a large crowd at specific events. In today's society we can watch a movie pretty much anywhere with as many people as we want and act as if it is completely normal. The way our society has evolved is something that people born in the 1900s probably never saw coming.

Response to TeenMediaJunky:

Seven Yardsticks
In response to Lucy's blog I really loved how informational her piece was and how she used examples to help us understand the content on a deeper level. My favorite part of the whole post was the way she related her post on not being biased and how she used her writing on demand piece about being able to vote at the age of 16 or not. I love how she told us how clear she was on how she wanted the teacher to teach kids on politics in an unbiased way. Her post was very informational and helped me understand the seven yardsticks more clearly.

Response to datsomattie blogs:
Demassification

In response to Mattie's blog on Demassification I really agree with what she was saying. If my family had to all watch the same channel it would be terrible. I find it great that there is demassification because it gives us more options. I also love how Mattie used the example of her Dad when he was growing and how didn't have much variety to chose from.

Media Critique

In 2014 during an episode of 60 minutes, reporter Lara Logan went to Liberia in Africa were Ebola was spreading massively. During her time there she interviewed two American doctors and one American nurse. There were a few clips of people from Africa burying bodies, cleaning cars, and singing songs. However, they did not interview one single doctor or patient from Africa. They only included only one story about a boy who was diagnosed with Ebola and had died one week later. We really only got one viewpoint which was from doctors who were from America. There was never an interview from an African doctor or patient that was stable enough to be interviewed telling us there story and how it feels for them that this sickness is spreading to so many people and the majority of them are dying all in there county. How it feels for them to be loosing there friends and family. Some might say that they may not won't to reveal there face or can not speak english. At the same time there are still translaters who can translate what they are saying and they could just record the voice instead of revealing the persons face. Also, many other news broadcasters such as CNN were covering the same story and were able to have at least one African doctor or patient speaking being interviewed. Which proves to show that there was a way to get in contact and interview those living in Africa. Clearly, 60 minutes is a highly realiable source to be informed on current news, but I believe that this was biased from only one view point.

Magazines

Magazines have been around for years now and they are truly different from many other forms of news such as newspaper or news channels. One aspect that magazines show that makes them so unique from all other forms is the way magazines use photojournalism. Have you ever taken a look at a newspaper article and realized not one whole page is filled with just a huge photo. This is one of the reasons why magazines are so brilliant because they are the only form of news that can actually do this and not put a single word on the page. Another creative form that magazines portray is that back in the day when books were to expensive for people other then those who were wealthy is that they would put chapters from books in every magazine and this method encouraged more people to become litterate and want to read. No other form of news is able to do is, which is yet another unique trait of magazines. Lastly, magazines can include segments  called personal profiles where they interview a person and not just the person but also that persons family members, friends, exc. one trait that is as well unique from all other news forms. I believe that because of these special traits magazines are still around today and will be for many for years to come.
Binary Models

During class we learned about binary models and there different branches that make up binary models. One part that I enjoyed learning the most about was Elitist vs. Populist. What this means is  when news companies especially news shows choose to cover a story that will attract the viewers in order to make money (populist) rather then to release information that may not be as popular for the viewers. Although many news companies do do this, newspaper companies tend to do it much less then news shows. However, one news show that is still elitist is "60 minutes". I really never realized that most news shows did this until we covered this material in class. Now looking back and watching new shows such as Fox or GMA I realized that especially news morning shows are always going for what the viewers want rather then real current events going on in our society. I really found this topic very interesting in class to learn about and I now understand the brain of news companies and the way that they think in order to make more money.

Ten Elements of Journalism

Being a journalist is one of the hardest jobs in the world. It isn't as serious as being a doctor were you have to save lives, or being a lawyer where if you loose your case your client may be sued 100,000 dollars. However, being a journalist is not an easy job because there are so many elements that make up being a good journalist and being able to follow those elements is not an easy task. There are ten elements that every journalist should follow and if not your career could be in jeporady. However, one of the most important elements for me is for journalist to be able to tell the truth. Telling the truth can sometimes be hard for journalists because they may not always agree with the truth or want to tell the truth. For example look at broadcasting journalist Bryan Williams. One of the most well-known journalist in the world. However he told a lie that in 2003 when he was in Iraq, that when he was in a helicopter it was hit by a grenade, when in reality he was in a helicopter thirty minutes behind the one that was hit. This whole lie led him to have a six month suspension and then finally was released from his job. Telling the truth is really imporant in journalism because no matter how good of a journalist you are any lie that you tell will at one point in your career be revealed and could lead to ending your career entirely.
